About PALS

The Protective Association for Lake Sunnyside was originally formed by a group of concerned property owners in 1998 to deal with the invasive species Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum, aka milfoil). By the summer 2008, much of the southern and eastern side of Lake Sunnyside had dense beds of milfoil going out 100+ feet from shore (photo below). Today we have been able to get the milfoil population under control by using a combination of hand harvesting and herbicide treatments. Lake Sunnyside also has curly-leaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) and brittle naiad (Najas minor).
